TRX® Suspension Fitness Explained - Edge of Wellness

TRX® Suspension Fitness Explained

While suspension training dates all the way back to the 1800’s with using rope for training, TRX® suspension fitness is a relatively new trend that revolves around getting a workout using two straps. These straps will allow you to suspend yourself while working out. This suspension training can lead to a more difficult and more effective workout. These straps can be mounted in a variety of ways, but the most common you will see when visiting a fitness studio is seeing them mounted on the wall or into the ceiling.

These straps are also available for purchase and you can easily hang them in your own home from a doorway.

Whether you decide to buy your own TRX® straps (or a different brand of suspension straps) or take a TRX® class at a fitness studio, you will see a variety traditional fitness moves using the straps. The straps are easy to use, can be used in a wide variety of ways, and are easily adjustable to control the height.

If you are thinking about purchasing your own TRX® or already have one, there are tons of amazing workouts you can check out here. Tip, watch yourself in the mirror (if possible) when you are performing a new exercise. This will help to ensure you are using proper form and will help to avoid injury.

Planning on taking a TRX® class? Well then, get ready for some intense interval training. A normal TRX® class will take you through intense strength training and will normally mix in some cardio. Things you can expect to see in a TRX® class:

  • One legged squats
  • Jump squats
  • Lunges
  • Planks
  • Rows
  • And much more

Before taking a TRX® class or investing in your own set of straps I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with proper form when it comes to squats, lunges, rows, and planks. Many of the suspension exercises will focus around these fundamental/basic moves. Anytime you workout, form should always be of utmost concern to prevent injury.
