The holidays are here and you know what that means? Lots of food, family, laughs, and cocktails! While many of us are able to make healthy choices when it comes to the foods we eat…we forget about what we are drinking! Well, we are here to tell you, you can have your holiday cocktails, but just be a bit smarter about what kind of drink you reach for.

Healthy Holiday Cocktails – Maybe not “Healthy”, but Lighter!

Red Wine Spritzer – Super simple holiday cocktail!

Step 1. Fill your wine glass with ice

Step 2. Fill your glass with half the amount of wine you normally would – I normally choose a sweet red wine

Step 3. Fill the remaining half with a calorie free and sugar free sparkling water – My personal favorite is LaCroix

Step 4. Enjoy! Optional – add some fresh fruit and/or mint leaves to fancy it up!

Calories – About 65 calories depending on how much wine you poured in your glass

Vodka or Gin Tonic – Keep it simple

Step 1. Select your favorite vodka or gin

Step 2. Fill a low ball glass with ice

Step 3. Add 1-2 shots of vodka or gin

Step 4. Fill the glass with calorie free and sugar free tonic water

Step 5. Add a wedge lemon and lime – squeeze juice from wedge into cocktail

Step 6. Enjoy!

Calories – About a 105 depending on the tonic water you choose

Homemade Healthy Spiked Eggnog

Step 1. Opt for a light homemade eggnog recipe  – avoid buying store bought eggnogs as these can pack in a ton of calories and sugar

Step 2. Spike it with your favorite rum

Step 3. Add your favorite spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.

Step 4. Optional – garnish with a little cocoa and a cinnamon stick

Calories – These will vary depending on which eggnog recipe you opt to make, but a normal glass of spiked eggnog will pack in about 300 calories – enjoy in moderation!

Holiday Moscow Mule

Step 1. Muddle fresh mint and ginger

Step 2. Add ice to copper mule mugs

Step 3. Pour in the vodka, ginger beer, and cranberry juice

Step 4. Optional – Add garnishes; lime wedge, orange peel curl, cinnamon stick, and/or sugar dusted cranberries

Step 5. Enjoy!

Spiked Skinny Hot Chocolate

Step 1. Follow full recipe

Step 2. Place 1 oz. amaretto at the bottom of mugs, then pour in hot chocolate

Step 3. Enjoy with some frothed almond milk on top

Calories – 232 per serving if following the recipe above – Keep in mind a normal mug of spiked hot chocolate can pack in up to 500 calories!

Skinny Espresso Martini

Step 1. Add 2 oz vanilla vodka, 3 oz coffee (lightly sweetened, 1 tablespoon sugar free eggnog coffee creamer into cocktail shaker with ice and shake for 5-10 seconds to cool and mix ingredients

Step 2. Strain into a martini glass

Step 3. Optional garnishes; frothed milk and cocoa
