Too Good to be True, Right?
This time it actually is! The Slimcado, a registered name, is an avocado grown primarily in Florida. It has smooth, glossy vibrant green skin like a lime. Twice the size of a traditional California or Hass avocado, it is surprising that they contain significantly less calories and fat than those you typically find at the grocery store.
Taste wise, the Slimcado also feels lighter, sweeter and more refreshing! I actually now prefer the Slimcado to the avocado! Cutting it feels little more fibrous and inside fruit (yes, avocado is a single seed fruit) is less creamy. Bonus, the shelf-life is also twice that of its little friend!
Just like a traditional avocado, the Slimcado is a significant source of nutrients and GOOD Fat! With 50% less calories and 35% less fat this 2-pound fruit is full of vitamin E, fiber, B-vitamins, potassium, zinc, and monounsaturated fat. In fact, the Slimcado has more potassium than a banana!
Cooking with the Slimcado is just as easy and some dishes actually are better because the Slimcado can handle heat while maintaining its texture. However, of you a guacamole fan, stick with your traditional avocado. The consistency when mashing is just not quite the same.
Overall, the Slimcado has changed how I eat avacados. It has become a staple in my diet and is by best friend for breakfast and a mid-day snack. I add it to smoothies substiute for almost every spread like mayo or butter. And at my local grocery store the 2 for $4.00 is affordable for just about any healthy eating budget!
So maybe the next “incredible, edible” add need not be the egg but instead the Slimcado!
