Boxing is definitely not a new sport, as forms of it date all the way back to the 1600s, however, it is now an easily accessible form of fitness for all. Boxing is a trending form of fitness that allows users to punch and kick their way to fitness. It will scorch calories and will even let you take out some stress on the punching bag. Keep in mind, though, this is not a kickboxing workout, we know it is super easy to confuse the two.
A Little More Information
In general, most boxing fitness classes will revolve around an instructor giving you cues on different kicks and punches to throw at the bag. Classes will be organized differently depending on what studio you attend, but generally, you will work on form/technique and also conditioning work.
What to Expect
When you arrive at your first class get ready to learn a thing or two about the moves, punches, and kicks that you can throw. Your hands will be wrapped before class begins, and if this is your first class your instructor will likely wrap your hands for you. Teaching you how to do it as they wrap. The wraps are meant to protect your hands and wrists when you begin throwing punches. Next, you will strap on your gloves and get ready to start class. Getting your gloves on for the first time may also require help from the instructor.
For your first class keep a close eye on the instructor when they demonstrate the movements, you will learn a wide variety of punches, kicks, and even footwork (this will vary from studio to studio). Throughout the class, you may also be told by the instructor to remove your gloves for different conditioning work, be prepared that it is awkward trying to get your gloves off by yourself the first time you do it.
Be prepared to sweat and burn some major calories. It is an intense workout and it will definitely get your blood pumping. Make sure to bring a water bottle and stay hydrated.
What to Wear
Any athletic clothes work fine for this workout. I would recommend shorts and a tank.
