We have all been there, that feeling where we mindlessly graze about our kitchen’s attempting to satisfy a hunger which really isn’t there. Yep, that’s right, I am talking about eating when you are really just bored. I know I am completely guilty of it…because let’s be real, eating is fun and it makes us feel good! But are you really hungry?
Here are some questions to ask yourself to help determine if you are hungry or just bored:
Am I Just Thirsty?
Drink a big glass of water and wait a few minutes. Are you still feeling hungry?
Do I Want to eat This Carrot?
Does your body want healthy options like vegetables and lean protein? If not, you probably are feeling false hunger pangs.
What Have I Eaten Today?
Quickly jot down what you have eaten so far, this can help determine if your body is in need of some energy (food) or if your mind is playing tricks on you.
Have I Been Active Today?
If you put in a hard workout your body may really be craving some extra energy (food). However, if you have been relatively sedentary your body does not need the additional energy.
What am I Craving?
Are you craving a grilled chicken breast or a big chocolate chip cookie? Many times our body’s cravings will help us to determine what our body actually needs. If you are craving grilled chicken, your body is could be trying to tell you it needs protein. While craving sweets can be an indicator that you are simply dehydrated and need some H2O.
